Question for Greener

Post by MoWarrior79 on Sat Mar 05, 2011 1:16 pm

Since were all trying to make each other better i was wondering if you would share some strategy with me. What plays should i call to stop your run? If you were trying to defend you, What would you do?

I wouldn't expect a "How to Beat Greenerrr" by Greenerrr sticky anytime soon lol!!! Funny thread!

i dont have a problem responding to this thread - its no secret that i am going to try to run the ball - and its no secret on how to stop it either....

pretty simple - i would substitue DL players with 300+ poound weight, the highest strength, Power move and Blockshed ratings that i have.... And at LB i would put in LB with great strength, pursuit and tackle ratings that are over 250 pounds...

What i have noticed is players have loaded up on SPEED LB and pass rushing DL - with less concern for other ratings (often these speed and pass rush specialist players are undersized)- that may work well vs players who pass a lot - or who use SCAT RBs - but those sort of players do not match up well ve my offense... and thats the way it goes - not every player in this game is a Pat Willis who can have 85+ speed and force the run as well as he stops the pass...

In addition, you could just ask FF or saastar they both stopped my run game and forced me to pass... I am sure both will chime in with their adjustments they made ...

i actually had help when i was facing greenerrr bc i was actually talking to FF while playing green.. but i did mostly de contain and alot of 5 man blitzes making him run straight up the middle into my LBs... but in the end still lost by 4... in dw lg.. 31-27.. gg though... on offense just attack the middle of the field... open about 60% of the time... and i usually play with my LB now so that helped stopping his run to an extent..

Greener thanks for chiming in, one more thing, Why do you make so many adjustments before the snap? What exactly are you doing cause your qb is talking non-stop for like 10-15 seconds

i am doing a few different things... I do a presnap read - and if the initial play that i call is not the best play for the defenseive front that i am facing - i call an audible and i willl adjust the line to give the best blocking angle at the point of attack...

Often it only 2-3 adjustments at most - but if u call and audible and shift the line - sometimes the play gets "stuck" and u can snap the ball right away - i have found that if you "redo" the Oline adjustment - that it will become "unstuck" and sometimes i redo this 2 or 3 times before i can get the ball to snap... In addition - sometimes if i happen to call a play tha is the best play for the defensive front that i am facing - i will do "meaningless" audibles or "joker" audibles - i do this by sending audibles that have no effect on the play - but this way - the defense always sees me doing audibles and doesnt know when i am actually making legitimate audibles and when i am making joker audibles - prooven football tactic...

against greener i don't like to blitz because sometimes it will end up in some guys getting suctioned blocked and a big gain but that just me. if you ask greener, he has a very hard time running on me. i like to use very simple plays like cover 3 for example, and i will usually shift my line to the strong side, then greener will probably audible to a weak side run and since i control my MLB i anticipate this and give weak side support and even when my MLB gets picked up a DE or outside LB will usually be there in run support because of the less amount of blockers weakside. just be careful to not over pursue a specific side or you will get burned eventually. the only time i really had trouble was in vista league he had adrian peterson in. i couldnt stop him, it was ridiculous. lol. but i still got the win in the playoffs.

when guys blitz me - its feast or famon - and in the game vs saastar it was famine... and to use another analogy - LIVE BY THESWORD - DIE BY THE SWORD... when guys blitz me - often they will hold me to a small gain and even more to no gain - BUT all i have to do is get to the 2nd level (becaus every1 brings their safety up vs me) - and if i get to that 2nd level - even my power RB with marginal speed will get HUGE GAINERS...

The tuffest players vs the run IMO are those players with great stick skills in pursuit - Dlew16 crushd my run game in our last DW game and beat me in OT...

and i often wondered about the "suction block" term - and i know guys feel that sometimes they just get "sucked" into the OLINE and they cant avoid it... but maybe -just perhaps - THATS WHAT THE OLINE IS TRYN TO DO!!!! and thats the way EA has made it so the OLINE is successful! Their are quality OLINE players that can get out on LBs or pick up blitzers - THATS THEIR JOB - and the higher their run block ratings - the more "able" they should be able to get out on their blocks... Besides you could be controlling the LB - do everything perfectly from your assigned position - BUT U JUST GET BLOCKED! IT HAPPENS (although as a former defensive corordinator - thats the worst thing a player could say to me when i ask him - "what happned on that play?" - if he responds, "Coach i got blocked" - i have a simple response to that "REFUSE T BE BLOCKED!!" lol - but thats just me being a demanding coach who is tryn to bring out the best in my players - of course i realize that the best players "get blocked" sometimes and actually more times than they make big plays)

i appreaciate the respect... but i am not worried about being "transparent" - my run philosphy is simple- put your best 9-10 guys against my best 9-10 guys and lets who is successful! If i am able to move the ball - i will continue to run it until you can show that you can consistantly stop the run... I may change tactics if down and distant dictate me to do so... but not before! What coach would stop running the ball when they are getting consistant gains and pass just for the sake of passing?
