A Page from FF's Playbook

part of week 1's success in holding the explosive texans offense to only 3 points in the first half was largly due in part to containing the sideline passes to his playmaker receivers, while taking away the deep cross to slot wr (desean jackson) at the same time getting some pressure before coverage breaks down.

THE PLAY:

SETUP:

i chose the 46-speed package (jets playbook) and subbed in an extra lb on the line as well as my primary mlb. starting off with a basic cover 1, i audibled the strong side corner to a buzz zone as well as the weak side lb. next was crashing the line to the strong side and blitzing the free safety. for additional security shading the strong safety towards the primary receiver helps as well.

altering the play by taking a chance with additional blitzes instead of the buzz zones can be effective as well especially down in the red zone. i always have at least a 3 man rush but try not to play as passive vs someone like CP. getting outside pressure from a blitzing corner or safety is key in not letting the receivers get separation or outrun the zones. hope this might help generate some new ideas on defense in shutting down those 3 wr sets that can leave you vulnerable to the run, while containing the pass.

**i'm not sure if this is one of his plays, but from what i saw a lot of the recievers were running these routes so i just used it as an example.

Wow, even with you telling me exactly what to do, I don't think I can audible fast enough before the snap to make this happen ha. Good stuff though, it's always nice to see stuff like this so I know what I need to work towards.

I'm lucky if I have time to make 1 adjustment presnap, and I definitely can't audible 1 guy into a blitz, 1 guy into a zone, etc. How do you do all this stuff?

i just made it up last night after i saw the routes his wr's were running on his 1st couple drives, you should really know every defensive audible and practice memorizing them so you can adjust your D on the fly.

i rarely pick just a basic play and 'hope for the best', i think its good to create your own plays (my invented bandit buzz from the 46, nickle package using the fs blitzer as the bandit and buzz zone lb's) and practice setting them up quickly in practice mode.

its pretty easy really, only 3 audibles. if you just hit x then the audible it only takes a second, but when your opponent is a fast snapper it can be tricky. a few times he caught me stuck on my dlineman tryin to get back to the user controlled lb. give it a try in practice mode for yourself, cause running standard plays vs good players like CP isn't gonna cut it. if you can't adjust to him, he will adjust to you and before you know he put up 28 points.
